'Why don't we just make our own? One that's perfect for us to drink?'. George Clooney and his business partner Rande Gerber, never thought they were at the very beginning of an exciting adventure.
Spending holidays in their newly built houses in Cabo San Lucas, the pair along with their friend Michael Meldman went on a quest for the best tequila shot. After all, what else to drink in Mexico? They tried different ones in restaurants and bars and none of them gave them the satisfaction that they were looking for. This is when the idea of creating their own tequila drink cropped up in their mind.
Did you know that tequila can possibly mean, "the place where a lot of work is done”? The famous actor and his friend took the challenge seriously and over two years, they tasted over 700 samples of tequila shots before finding the one. A tequila they could drink all day long without any awful aftertaste or hangover feeling.
Once they got their blissful recipe, they decided to drink this special tequila only for their own enjoyment. However, when the duo started to order over 1,000 bottles yearly, the distillery required them to have the beverage licenced. And that’s how it all started!
Their old friend, Meldman, joined them and in 2013, they got a distributor in US. The same year, they launched their company, and the drink was available in popular bars and restaurants. A 75cl bottle of tequila was sold as from $45 only. Given that the drink was affordable, it quickly became famous.
Slowly, the company turned into one of the fastest-growing brand of tequila. In 2014 till 2015, the demand for Casamigos was doubled… which led to the now famous brand to be sold in more than 20 countries which includes United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Italy and Jamaica.
