Henry Cavill – our very much loved and dashing Superman is back on our screens! This time, as a solitary monster hunter in “The Witcher”. The series will be coming soon to Netflix and we are all biting our nails in anticpation... Will it be for much longer? Well, until late 2019!
So, what is The Witcher all about? It’s all about dark magic and fantasy. This is not a fantasy for kids - nor the fainthearted! As per the Netflix blurb—"The witcher, Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts”. Netflix knows how to create hype while not giving much away! Executive producers – Jason Brown and Sean Daniel tell a little more in their official synopsis. They indicated the show follows an unusual family that “comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world."
We won’t spoil it for you, but here’s a small preview of the series...His name is Geralt of Rivia and slaying monsters for money is the only thing that brings meaning to his life... But not all monsters hide in the dark… And not all humans are kind. Destiny will make him cross paths with a powerful sorceress, a wolf in the guise of a sheep and a young princess. Only time will reveal the true intentions of the sorceress and the secrets she hides from the world.
For those who haven’t read the books yet, the plot takes place in a fantasy realm called The Continent. It is where the human settlers have conquered the native gnomes, dwarves and elves. The southern half is ruled by the Nilfgaard Empire. Most of the stories take place in that part - which is constantly at war with the Northern Kingdoms.
This Netflix series is based on the Bestselling Polish novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. He is also working on the series as a creative consultant. In a press release, Sapowski said “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing...I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
